Definition
The Family and Youth Intervention (FYI) Therapist/Therapist Intern provides direct therapeutic services to children, youth, and families in various mental health programs. The Therapist/Therapist Intern provides family therapy to clients to improve communication, relationships, and other family issues. The Therapist/Therapist Intern may also facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups. The Therapist/Therapist Intern conducts crisis assessments both on site and at pre-determined school locations that include follow up care recommendations. The Therapist/Therapist Intern works within a team setting with other Cabinet staff and community partners to facilitate prompt and effective delivery of services. This position reports to the Clinical Director.
Part-time position, flexible hours, midafternoon up to 7:00 pm and looking for possible Monday, Thursday and/or Friday shifts.

Duties
- Achieve an understanding of agency mission, strategic focus areas, and overall goals and objectives and contribute to the success of these areas.
- Read, understand, and apply all agency and department policy and procedures set forth in both the Agency Handbook and Family Counseling and Behavioral Health Program Handbook.
- Maintain a schedule that includes a set number of clinical hours per week.
- Obtain and document Informed Consent from all counseling participants.
- Provide family therapy for youth and families referred to the Family Counseling Program using accepted clinical methods, strategies, and intervention techniques.
- Keep accurate and timely case records including comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan, closing summary, progress notes related to goal achievement, and all other contact (i.e., in person visits, virtual visits, phone calls, emails, voicemail, faxes, text messages) with or on behalf of clients.
- Provide mental health and other service referrals and/or enhanced referrals using database programs and other information sources.
- Assist parents in navigating resources and supports that meet their needs.
- Support parents understanding of eligibility requirements of various mental health support programs and how to access the required documentation if applicable.
- Use identified tools and assessments to serve families including harm to self or others risk assessments, C-SSRS, and Safety Plans.
- Conduct crisis assessments both on site and at pre-determined school locations that include follow up care recommendations
- Use appropriate interpretation to support families whose first language is not English.
- Participate in the development of consumer education materials (newsletters, tip sheets, calendars, brochures, etc.) based on the information needs of families.
- May assist with guidance of interns and volunteers (licensed therapists provide the onsite supervision).
- Collaborate with Case Managers and other staff to provide wraparound services.
Entry Level Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Community services and supports for families including other mental health providers.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
- Trauma Informed Care practice principles.
- Principles, practices, techniques, and accepted trends in family counseling and systemic perspectives, with an emphasis on child and adolescent behaviors and problems.
- Crisis intervention strategies (e.g., responding to youth suicidality, etc.).
- Positive parenting concepts and work/life supports for families.
- Computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, data base programs, etc., and the desire to learn new programs.
Ability to:
- Use outstanding customer service skills.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally.
- Be organized and use effective time management.
- Facilitate positive, strength-based communication with clients.
- Work collaboratively with staff and community agencies.
- Work with adults and youth of diverse backgrounds and beliefs and adapt service delivery accordingly.
- Problem solve in urgent situations
- Adhere to the AAMFT, ACA, and/or NASW Code of Ethics; and applicable Federal and State Laws.
Special Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in human services field
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Must be physically capable of performing all job duties. This may include lifting up to 40 lbs.; bending; standing; sitting; and walking up and down stairs (to conduct home visits); repetitive hand motion (completing forms and inputting data)
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
- Willing to obtain required medical screen and immunizations such as TB test, Hepatitis, etc.
- Must work evenings and occasional weekends and/or early mornings
License or Certificate
- Must hold and maintain a Nevada License for one of the following: Marriage and Family Therapist, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, Clinical Professional Counselor, Clinical Professional Counselor Intern, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Social Work Intern. Interns must also have a current and valid contract for Primary Supervision approved by their Board of Examiners
- Fully Licensed preferred, will accept interns
- Must hold, without gaps, individual professional liability insurance at $1,000,000/$3,000,000 minimums
- Able to pass complete background check
- Must possess a valid Nevada's Driver's License and proof of insurance if utilizing a personal vehicle for company business
