Definition:
The Youth Outreach Specialist is responsible for engaging and supporting youth ages 12-24 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, victims of abuse, vulnerable to trafficking, or may be in need of services provided by The Children's Cabinet and Cabinet partners. This role focuses on proactive outreach in both physical and digital spaces to connect youth with essential resources, safety services, and supportive programs. Specialists build trust through consistent presence, provide immediate assistance, and serve as a critical link to community services and emergency interventions. This is full-time position and reports to the Safe Place Coordinator.
Supervision:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, however, will have indirect management of the Youth Ambassadors
Duties:
Direct Outreach:
- Conduct in-person outreach at identified locations (e.g., schools, malls, local youth focused businesses, areas along the Truckee River, and sports and community events).
- Develop and maintain a consistent outreach schedule to build rapport and trust with youth.
- Provide referrals for youth to Children's Cabinet programs and support services.
- Develop and Conduct youth surveys to determine and improve the efficacy of youth outreach efforts.
Digital Engagement:
- Create and manage social media campaigns on Instagram, TikTok, and X (Twitter) to reach youth online.
- Respond to inquiries and provide information about Children's Cabinet youth programs, including Safe Place, and other resources through digital platforms.
Resource Distribution:
- Provide hygiene kits, food packets, seasonal clothing, and informational materials during outreach.
- Adjust, maintain, and enhance care kits based on seasonal and observed needs (e.g., blankets in winter, sunscreen in summer).
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols, including working in pairs and adhering to the Youth Outreach Safety Plan.
- Maintain mandated reporting responsibilities for suspected abuse or trafficking.
- Utilize the Nevada Rapid Indicator Tool to identify youth at risk of sexual exploitation or trafficking.
- Submit monthly reports regarding program activities to the Safe Place Coordinator
- Collect and maintain required documentation for input into applicable databases and data management systems.
Emergency Response:
- Facilitate immediate shelter placement and notify law enforcement when necessary.
- Coordinate wraparound services, including counseling and referrals to partners such as HSA and Awaken.
Community Engagement:
- Participate in community events and collaborate with local businesses, schools, and Safe Place partners to increase awareness of available youth programs and services offered by The Children's Cabinet and Cabinet partners.
- Promote The Children's Cabinet branding and messaging throughout outreach efforts.
- Conducts presentation on program services
Other:
- May be required to transport families and/or youth
- Achieve an understanding of agency mission, strategic focus areas and overall goals and objectives. Contribute to the success of these areas.

Minimum Qualifications Needed:
- AA or Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience in social work and/or Human Services
or related field preferred.
- Bilingual - fluent in English and Spanish required.
- 1 - 2 years' experience working or volunteering with youth in a support or mentoring capacity preferred.
- Basic design and computer literacy skills required.
Knowledge of:
- Community agencies and resources, as well as an understanding of the problems facing children, youth and families.
- Family and youth relationship issues
- Appropriate interactions with youth and families
- Leadership skills including sound decision-making, crisis management techniques, staff motivation and be a self-motivated team player.

Ability to:
- Keep appointments punctually.
- Ability to work with the diversity of adults and youth within the community
- Schedule and perform presentations for community groups
- Learn new ideas and skills by reading and with hands-on-training.
- Express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Perform all job duties including being able to lift up to 40lbs, walking up or down stairs, and sitting at a computer for long periods of time.

- Able to pass complete background check.
- Must have reliable vehicle for work and clean driving record
- Must possess a valid Nevada Driver's License, and proof of insurance for utilizing a personal vehicle for company business.
- Work requires some weekend and evening hours.
