The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the cleanliness, upkeep, and day-to-day maintenance of Children's Cabinet facilities across the Reno area. This position owns daily janitorial operations at two primary buildings, performs routine and minor maintenance tasks, manages facilities supplies, coordinates agency vehicle maintenance, and serves as first-responder support for facilities issues at other agency locations. Work is performed on a swing shift (exact schedule has some flexibility), with maintenance tasks and some cleaning completed during business hours, and more disruptive tasks performed outside of normal business hours.

This position does not supervise other staff.

This is a full-time position reporting to the IT and Facilities Manager.

Overtime must be pre-approved by authorized management.

Duties

  • Perform daily cleaning of offices, common areas, restrooms, and break rooms at two primary buildings: vacuum, mop, empty trash, and restock supplies as needed with each visit.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of cleaning and facilities supplies; placing orders to prevent shortages without overstocking.
  • Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC troubleshooting and maintenance; escalating larger issues to licensed vendors.
  • Complete general maintenance and repair tasks including minor painting, touch-up work, and hardware replacement.
  • Monitor plants, planters, and exterior landscaping; coordinating with landscaping vendor for maintenance as needed.
  • Monitor for pest activity and coordinate with pest control vendors as needed.
  • Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance and smog testing for agency vehicles; tracking service records and flagging upcoming needs. (candidates 25 years or older are required for insurance purposes)
  • Travel to other Children's Cabinet locations to address urgent facility's needs.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for facilities vendors; coordinating and overseeing outside contractors for repairs beyond in-house scope.
  • Attend and participate in department/agency staff meetings and other events as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries on a timely basis and performing duties with appropriate urgency.
  • Achieve an understanding of the agency's mission, strategic focus areas, and overall goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum skills required:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic plumbing systems and common repair techniques.
  • Basic electrical systems and maintenance practices.
  • Basic painting knowledge
  • Safe and effective use of hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Cleaning products, equipment, and janitorial best practices.
  • Facilities supply management and inventory control.

Ability to

  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and complete work without direct supervision.
  • Work outdoors, as needed, in varying weather conditions.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with coworkers, staff, and vendors.
  • Follow instructions and adapt to shifting priorities or unexpected situations.
  • Maintain commitment to safe work practices at all times.
  • Act with integrity in all aspects of work.

Special Requirements

  • At least three (3) years of maintenance, janitorial, or facilities experience, or experience in a similar role.
  • Reliable vehicle for work and must possess a valid Nevada driver's license and proof of insurance when using a personal vehicle for agency business, and clean driving record. Ability to operate a company vehicle (candidates 25 years or older are required for insurance purposes)
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds; ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods including standing, bending, walking up and down stairs and working at heights.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Trane HVAC systems is a plus.
