Definition
The QRIS Coach provides onsite coaching, technical assistance, and training to early childhood programs operating in licensed child care settings and school districts. The position supports programs in strengthening the quality of their early learning environments and implementing continuous quality improvement strategies.
The QRIS coach must have a strong understanding of early childhood education best practices, Nevada child care licensing regulations, school district pre-K programming (position specific), the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) and/or Infant and Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS), and Nevada Silver State Stars Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). The coach models high-quality early childhood practices and uses a strengths-based, collaborative approach in all aspects of this position.

Duties
-Understand and support the agency's mission, strategic focus areas, goals, and objectives. Contribute to the success of these areas.
-Read, understand, and comply with all agency and department policy and procedures outlined in the Agency Handbook and QRIS Program Manual.
-Achieve an initial reliability score of at least 80% within 10 reliability visits on each applicable ERS scale. Maintain 80% reliability thereafter.
-Enroll programs in the QRIS coaching program by educating teachers and administrators about program expectations and responsibilities and facilitating the completion of a Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs).
-Collaborate with providers to identify strengths and areas for improvement after analyzing ITERS and/or ECERS pre-assessments.
-Develop individualized quality improvement plans based on program needs and ERS scores.
-Conduct onsite coaching visits with all programs enrolled in QRIS coaching program.
-Provide training and professional development aligned with program needs and quality improvement plans. Deliver at least four (4) Nevada Registry-approved training sessions annually.
-Identify resources that support program quality improvement plans and review grant material requests for alignment with established program goals.
-Complete at least 15 hours of continuing education annually to maintain Nevada Registry Qualified Trainer status.
-Participate in community outreach events to promote awareness of Silver State Stars QRIS Coaching, other Cabinet services, and key ECE messages in accordance with the annual plan.
-Collaborate with other early childhood agencies that provide technical assistance and coaching to identify and address service gaps and reduce duplication of services.
-Collaborate with other Children's Cabinet programs, services, and initiatives to support program and agency goals.
-Maintain accurate provider files and enter information in applicable data systems in a timely manner.
-Promote and models continuous improvement and professional growth.
-Participate in the development of consumer education materials (newsletters, tip sheets, brochures, etc.).
-Performs other duties as assigned to assist in the overall operation of the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
-Quality standards and best practices in early childhood education, including Environment Rating Scales (ERS) and child assessment practices.
-Early childhood education practices and principles across diverse child care settings.
-Child care licensing requirements.
-Adult learning techniques, facilitation skills, and technical assistance learning systems.
-Computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, data base programs, etc., and the desire to learn new programs.
Ability to:
-Communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally.
-Be organized and use effective time management.
-Provide outstanding customer service skills.
-Facilitate positive and productive communication with customers.
-Work independently and collaboratively with staff and community agencies.
-Work with adults of diverse backgrounds and beliefs and adapt service delivery accordingly.
Special Requirements
-Bachelors degree required
-An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field may be considered only when accompanied by substantial, directly relevant experience or coaching within the specific program model.
-A Nevada Registry Career Ladder Level of 5.2 is strongly preferred.
-Must have 3-years of experience in early childhood education settings.
-For Pre-K Coaching Positions - Experience in Pre-K School District settings is strongly preferred.
-For Family Child Care Positions - Experience in licensed family child care is strongly preferred.
-Obtain a negative TB skin test or chest x-ray and provide proof of current immunizations for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTap).
-Achieve and maintain 80% reliability on Environment Rating Scales (ERS).
-Be physically capable of performing all job duties including but not limited to: walking up and down stairs; bending and being able to lift and carry weight upwards of 25 lbs.;
-Must have reliable vehicle for work.
-Requires some weekend and evening work.
-In-state travel is required, with up to 90% of work time spent traveling to provide onsite coaching
-Must successfully complete and pass a background check.
-May be required to maintain current child care worker requirements.
-Must possess a valid Nevada Driver's License and clean driving record and have proof of current insurance for using a personal vehicle for agency business.
